The Holy Grail - Half Life 3

Half-Life 3 is and will be my most aticipated game ever. The First two games including the episodes are some of my post played games and my number one is Garrysmod; a sandbox source engine game. It holds a special place in my heart and why this game will be getting special treatment from me and its own page.

I will eventually do a review of the first and second Half-Life games but will take a while as they may be very long.

There are many reasons why this game will be my most anticipated game ever, but let’s look at the biggest reasons for me.

Valve usually like to challenge themselves and push their engine to the max, trying to push the industry forward. We can see this in Half-Life 1 that it was the first shooter game than had amazing enviromental story telling, a world that gives you so much feedback and great AI for the time, having a look at the first Half-Life 25th anniversy video Valve posted, you can see the amount of work that went into this to create a pure fun, story telling, action shooter that told a story in an amazing way.

The Next game is Half-Life 2, my first Half-Life 2 game i played on my dad’s pc. Again this achieved better graphics and a just as fun story telling action shooter game. But this time we had a the Source engine, which introduced these amazing advanced graphics at the time and the game had these awesome puzzles to figure out while trying to fight your way to the citidal. They really utilized their engine to do something awesome and amazing that left  a huge impression on games and a massive impact on future games and how they are told and played. The facial animations in the games blew my mind after watching the 25th anniversery for the Half-Life 2 video. Its really amazing the amount of work and what they did to achieve things that may seem easy to accomplish now but to do that back in 2004 was awesome. The episodes we’re a really nice addition to continue the story they had. They explain why they stopped and what episode could have been in the aniversary video below.

13 Years…. not a peep. They were working on their other games for a while up until 2013 when they started slowing down and releasing different kinds of games. Then boom Half-Life Alyx. Debateably still the best VR game to this day, Valve seem to have a knack for making amazing games that really are just fun and interesting and again push the limits. after 16 years the ending of Half-Life Alyx bought many tears to my eyes. It really felt like Half-Life was back. The first game in their Source 2 engine and it was awesome.

Keeping that all in mind, we are closer to a possible Half-Life 3 then ever. Keeping in mind how impactful each of these games have been, Half-Life 3 could be best game of this decade and again we could see something new and revolutionary from this game.

There are other reasons I like this game, i also love the story and the mystery that surrounds it, the community make following this game so much fun and the custom mods and creations that come out of it are amazing. I love how the game series manages to make seamless game stories just through playing the game and it just has my favourite story and gameplay…that simple.

I implore you to go back and play these games, if you are looking to play the first game again but more modern, the Black Mesa game is an amazing fan game that replicates the first Half-Life game. Go and give it a go. I will be updating this page slowly adding more too it and up to date news on Half-Life 3
